During this month of October, the school celebrated convivial days where children visit the provincial house of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. This year the focus was to prepare and celebrate various events that are part of our pilgrimage in faith and hope as a Cabrinian family. We convey to our students the importance of being part of Mother Cabrini’s dream, of how God accompanies each of us on our journey in the same way as he did with her. We want students to be aware of how important it is to do good; God is with us every day and invites us to be attentive to those around us, to treat them well, to care about how they feel, and to do what we can to help, to comfort, “charting the path together.” To do this in elementary school, we watched a video to reflect on how we can contribute to Mother Cabrini’s mission. The children wrote down the talents that they will put at the service of the common good, building a path of fraternity. Afterwards, they played cooperative games to further develop these values in a more playful way.
The first stage takes place in the classroom, OUR MEETING WITH THE RESURRECTEDJESUS. We read a passage from the Gospel of Mark and develop and share a short reflection with the students.
The second stage is a meditation session on THE WOODCUTTER in the inner room ofLos Molinos. A short excerpt is read and ones take advantage of this moment to find one’s self, to discover one’s inner self, to answer questions or pose new ones that may arise.
The third stage will be WALKING HAND IN HAND WITH MARY. We will walk from the Los Molinos residence to the Our Lady of Espino hermitage. During the walk, everyone must find a dark stone and a white stone. The dark stone represents one’s complexes, fears and worries. The white stone instead represents one’s dreams, objectives and will to live. On the way, one must leave the dark stone behind, symbolizing that it has been left behind and that one has been able to let go of the burden that prevents one from moving forward.
The fourth stage is PILGRIMS OF FAITH AND HOPE. Everyone will be invited to leave the white stone collected along the way in front of the altar of the Our Lady of Espino Hermitage forming a little pile so that She, as a symbol of the Church, will welcome us, take care of us and encourage us to go on pilgrimage in this Jubilee year.
The other campaign this month is World Missionary Day. The goal this year is to understand the meaning of the verse “Go and invite everyone to the banquet.” But how can we do this? To do so, students, aided by their tutors, carry out a motivational activity in class.
We answer the following question:
What does it mean to be Missionaries of love and hope? It means to give and receive freely, as Jesus tells us in his Good News, “What you have received freely, give freely.” (Mt. 10:8). Students work together to produce a common report on the meaning of each of the words in the World Mission Day motto: “Go and invite everyone to the banquet.” They also write a commitment to offer to Jesus something related to the words that make up the motto. It concludes with a prayer.
